Flu Cases

Flu cases across Colorado are causing a surge in the number of students missing school.

State health officials say there were more confirmed cases of
the illness last week than all previous weeks of the flu season
combined.

School absenteeism climbed to seven-point-eight percent last
week. That compares with a preseason rate of about three-point-two
percent.

The number of students sick last week was higher than any week
during the 2001-2002 flu season.

Health workers fear the peak of the flu season could still be
one to three weeks away.
