Wednesday will offer more cloud cover and cooler temperatures. By later Wednesday afternoon, rain showers will develop across the Pikes Peak Region and slowly drift southward. Those rain showers will change to snow at higher elevations, and accumulations will be likely. At lower elevations, snow accumulation does not appear to be a big deal. Flu cases across Colorado are causing a surge in the number of students missing school.
State health officials say there were more confirmed cases of
the illness last week than all previous weeks of the flu season
School absenteeism climbed to seven-point-eight percent last
week. That compares with a preseason rate of about three-point-two
The number of students sick last week was higher than any week
during the 2001-2002 flu season.
Health workers fear the peak of the flu season could still be
one to three weeks away.
