A system producing heavy snow in the central mountains arrives in SE Colorado overnight Sunday into Monday bringing moisture, windy conditions and colder temperatures. Snow showers will be possible across the I-25 corridor to start the day. This system will produce bands of snow through the day Monday. Areas under these bands will see periods of heavy snowfall which, with windy conditions, could create travel difficulties. Three of the soldiers who died in a weekend helicopter crash in northern Iraq were members of the Army's Third Armored Cavalry Regiment stationed at Fort Carson.
Thirty-six-year-old Major Douglas Labouff, of California, 43-year-old Captain Michael Martinez, of Missouri, and 36-year-old First Lieutenant Joseph deMoors, of Jefferson, Alabama, died near Tal Afar, Iraq, on Saturday, when their U-H-60 Black Hawk helicopter crashed.
Four civilians and five other military personnel also were killed.
The Black Hawk was providing support for the 101st Airborne Division. The cause of the crash isn't known.
It was the deadliest helicopter crash in Iraq since about a year ago when a C-H-53 Sea Stallion went down in bad weather in western Iraq, killing 31 U.S. service members.
