A Colorado Springs man who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the slaying of his adoptive mother is sentenced to a maximum 80 years in prison.
Robert Nicholas Mountz also pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery and escape in the slaying of 55-year-old Beverly Mountz.
Yesterday, the 22-year-old asked in court for the harshest sentence available, saying he doesn't feel emotion or care about anyone or anything, including himself.
Mountz admitted to breaking into his mother's house and waiting for her with a baseball bat, then strangling her with shoelaces after she survived a severe beating.
Mountz was arrested in November 2004 while driving his mother's S-U-V after a high-speed chase that ended just over the state line in New Mexico.
A short time later, his mother's burned body was found.
