White House To Hefley: Run Again

Colorado Congressman Joel Hefley says an aide to President Bush has urged him to run for re-election this year, because having more open seats in the House makes it more difficult to keep a Republican majority.

The 70-year-old hasn't decided whether to seek his eleventh term in the U-S House of Representatives or retire, but says he'll keep the aide's request in consideration.

Hefley says he expects to decide "soon," after considering what's best for himself, his family and his district.

His Fifth Congressional District is considered the most conservative in Colorado, but a Republican primary could divert money from other congressional races.

The Republicans hold a 231-to-202 majority over Democrats. The 435-member chamber also has one independent member and one vacancy.
