The Colorado Department of Transportation is teaming up with Colorado Springs Police to enforce a law that makes I-25 a "Move It" corridor.
It applies to drivers who are involved in minor accidents. According to a 1995 state law., if the vehicle is still drivable and there are no injuries or suspicion of drug or alcohol abuse, the drivers should immediately move out of traffic to a safe location.
Colorado Springs Police say the law is designed to prevent additional accidents and congestion. "Even if that means driving a mile down to the next exit to where they can safely get off onto a shoulder, that's what they need to do," says Lt. Skip Arms.
Studies indicate more than 60% of all traffic delays are caused by accidents rather than volume.
