New HIV Test

A new finger prick test for HIV will be able to detect within 20 minutes whether someone has the virus that causes AIDS. Officials at OraSure, the company supplying the tests, say they should arrive in clinics and doctors' offices by spring.

But Colorado health workers hope the company behind the new test will give them buyer lists so they can keep track of who's using it. That's because the health department is responsible for knowing how many people in the state have HIV and AIDS. Health officials say workers will be targeting people they know will be using the test the most.

OraSure won't say whether it plans to release the list of people and organizations who buy the test.
