Emergency Tips

In raising the terror alert level, the government is warning Americans to be prepared -- but what does that mean?

Here are some pointers that are coming from emergency
officials.

Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge says the first step is
taking ``the time now to get informed.''

He specifically urged people to make plans on how to contact
family members in an emergency. He also says people should pick a
meeting place in case telephone service is disrupted.

He says that will probably make relatives ``a lot more
comfortable'' if there's a disaster.

The government offers more tips for creating a ``disaster plan''
at www.fema.gov.
