A strong cold front will move through Southern Colorado today. It will bring much colder temperatures (especially in the afternoon), strong wind, a few rain/snow showers, and blowing dust to Southern Colorado. Light snow accumulations and poor visibility will be possible for a time this afternoon and evening north of Colorado Springs and south/southwest of Pueblo. Blowing dust will be mostly likely on the Eastern Plains, where a Blowing Dust Advisory is in effect. Bottom-line, your Tuesday will feel (and look) a lot different than the past two days. Despite warnings that a more restrictive ballot initiative was likely to result -- a House committee today killed a measure requiring two years of English immersion for non-English-speaking students in public schools.
The House Education Committee made the decision after hearing
from numerous residents with children attending dual-language
schools -- where students who are learning English learn alongside
native English speakers.
The parents said they feared the bill would eliminate their ability to choose to have their children educated in such schools
-- and that it would force segregation of nonnative English
