Locally heavy rain will remain possible overnight, with any showers and storms. Areas likely to see additional heavy rain will likely be east of I-25 and along HWY 50 from Canon City eastward. Approximately 200 soldiers from Fort Carson were welcomed home late Saturday night after a 10-month deployment to Afghanistan.
Family and friends gathered at Butt Army Airfield at 10 p.m. to welcome home the soldiers from the regiment known as Task Force Gunfighter.
Fort Carson’s 1st Battalion, 2nd Aviation Regiment provided air support and flew medical evacuations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Nicknamed ‘Task Force Gunfighter,’ the Aviation Regiment flew more than 20,000 combat hours and 750 hours of medical evacuation missions. Task force Gunfighter maintained a 24-hour medical coverage of their area, flying 350 medevac missions. The group is credited with providing life-saving care to more than 430 patients.
