Two motorists are dead after a three-vehicle crash on I-25 Thursday night.
The crash happened at 8:45 p.m. near the El Paso/Pueblo county line at mile marker 117.
A driver on a moped was headed southbound with State Patrol says he was rear-ended by a Volkswagen Golf. Darren Capanna, 51, was ejected from the moped and died at the scene. He was reportedly not wearing a helmet. The driver of the Volkswagen was not injured.
A third driver, 61-year-old Diane Hayes, was behind the crash and tried to avoid it, but lost control and rolled into the center median. Hayes was killed in the rollover; two passengers in her vehicle were transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Troopers say the three were wearing seat belts.
The crash remains under investigation. It's unknown if there were any outside factors such as drugs or alcohol that contributed.
