A court appearance is scheduled today for a Fort Carson soldier accused of striking another soldier who later died.
Colorado Springs police say 22-year-old Specialist Timothy Parker struck 21-year-old Specialist Piotr Szczypka in a fight outside an apartment complex.
Szczypka died early Friday. Now Parker faces a charge of second-degree murder.
Police say Parker also faces a charge of first-degree assault for allegedly attacking a third soldier, Omar Conte, who suffered a cut to the face.
Szczypka had served in South Korea with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team before being deployed to Iraq, then returning to the U-S.
Parker is assigned to the 3rd Brigade Combat Team. His unit was to begin deploying to Iraq this month.
