National Western Stock Show

Updated: Sun 7:13 PM, Jan 26, 2003

A record number of people attended the 97th annual National Western Stock Show and Rodeo. Stock show officials say 641,033 people came to the event during its 16-day run, which ended Sunday.

The previous record was set last year when 632, 296 people attended.

Stock show spokesman Bill Saul says attendance appeared particularly strong by metro Denver residents and attributed the increase to good weather and not having to compete with the Broncos. But, he says the financial stress of the drought may have deterred some out of state farmers and ranchers from traveling to the event.
