A 17-year-old woman was killed Tuesday when she was ejected from her car in a single-vehicle crash.

Colorado State Troopers say they responded to the serious crash on westbound Highway 86 at milepost 25 near the town of Kiowa around 12:30 p.m.

Police say Mickie Kraft was driving a green 2001 VW Passat when she ran off the left side of the roadway. Kraft then overcorrected and returned to westbound Highway 86 before running off the left side of the roadway a second time. The vehicle then rolled one and a half times before colliding with a fence.

Kraft was reportedly not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, sustaining serious injuries.

She was taken to Swedish Medical Center in Englewood and later pronounced dead.

Alcohol or drugs are not suspected as contributing factors.

The Colorado State Patrol reminds motorists to ensure they are always
wearing their seat belts when traveling along Colorado's highways.

Okay so if you read the article Bill, it does say she was not wearing a seat belt. And there is no way to know if it would have saved her life. Yes we would probably think so, but we will never know. And I think that most people can read this report and realize that seatbelts are important, sorry you did not recieve that message. I don't think it needs to be made any clearer the importance of wearing a seatbelt. She lost her life after being ejected from a vehicle, not wearing a seat belt, pretty obvious to most. I am her sister and I still have to actively remind myself everytime I get in the car to put on my seatbelt

mickie was an awesome girl. she didnt deserve any of this...and to those people who didn't even know her saying that she would have lived if she wore her seat belt....just stop. this is such a terrible tragedy. very sad....very. they said her care was totalled. of course. if she wore her seat belt and was not ejected, she would have been crushed to death. We love you Mickie Sue may you rest in peace.

Mickie Sue was my niece and I loved her so much! Her not being here and her family is all that really matters right now. May they find strength to face their tomorrows. God Bless and help them.

This incident is very sad. I agree that complaining about the text is missing the point of the story. I'm just curious as to why no one has mentioned the lack of using her seatbelt which resulted in her being ejected?? Would the seat belt have saved her life? Shouldn't this be publicized so our kids (and adults) make sure they use them?? May she rest in peace.

This is tragic. The family came in for memorial tattoos for Mickie and my heart just ached for them. How sad this is. I see it too many times! I wish there was more that I could have said to this family, but I don't know that there can be any consolation right now. I am deeply sorry for thier loss.

What is the deal with all of you angry people? You are upset that the reporter couldn't get the wording right and not focus on the fact a young lady died? Look who's talking? We are all human! I actually feel remorse for the family and my heart goes out to them. I will pray for the family. And not focus on petty things.

Wow, glad you guys can focus on the PROOFREADING instead of the fact that a teen has lost her life. Petty petty....

Anna and Josh, why didn't you just e-mail the reporter/journalist direct? Their e-mail is at the top of the story.

After changing it once, they still messed it up. "A 17-year-old woman was killed Tuesday when she was ejected from HIS car in a single-vehicle crash." Come on people, anybody ever heard of proofreading???? My 10 year old son caught this error!

Twice in the opening sentence of this article Mickie Kraft was referred to as a man: A 17-year-old woman was killed Tuesday when he was ejected from his car in a single-vehicle crash. I would expect that the reporter or whomever wrote this would have a little more respect. A young lady lost her life, you would think that someone would be able to proof read what was written before they published it and caused the family embarrassment during this tragic time.
