An early morning fire destroys a home in Colorado Springs.

The fire broke out around 3:00 a.m. Friday at 4436 Horizonpoint Dr. just south east of the Springs airport.

Springs fire says there was one woman and a dog inside the two story home when the fire broke out. The woman was alerted to the fire when a neighbor and news paper delivery person came into the home to get her and they both made it out safely.

Neighbors say they heard a loud pop, went outside to see what it was and saw the fire in the back of the home. Police evacuated three other homes as a precaution.

There is an investigation team looking into what started the fire.

I can't comment on the fire this morning, but I know of two seperate occassions where the new fire department was called and they responded within minutes and were very helpful.

We didn't have a fire department out here for years! The colorao springs city department had to come all the way from Powers. I drove by this and saw two of the fire fighters sitting on the bumper of there fire truck watching the fire. Then the city fire men showed up & put out the blaze. We would of been better off without the newly formed fire deparmtnet.

Thats the second house to burn down this year in that neighborhood. I wonder if the two are related.
