Colorado Springs police say a 14-year-old student of Jenkins Middle School who was taken into custody Thursday, did in fact call in a threat to the school.

Authorities say the female student was arrested for False Reporting of Explosives and Interference with Staff, Faculty, or Students of an Educational Institution.

Jenkins Middle School students and teachers were evacuated when the bomb threat was phoned in Thursday morning.

School officials say they had also received a threatening letter earlier in the week, but found it not to be credible. Police are still investigating whether that letter was related to the phone call.

Police say the call came from a male saying, "Get out of the building." They say the call was traced to an Albertsons pharmacy. Police are checking all nearby Albertsons to see if anyone saw anything suspicious or saw people on the phone.

Police dogs were used to search for a bomb in the school and determined nothing suspicious to be present.

Students waited at Scott Elementary School for about an hour before being allowed back in. The school day continued as usual. Parents were given the option to pick up their children early.

I'm an 8th grader at Jenkins and I do have to aplaud the staff on how well they handeled the situation. Esepecally considering that it was before school.

I want to commend the staff at Jenkins. I thought they handled the frightful situation beautifully.

As a teacher at Jenkins, I want to clear up a few things. First of all, we (the teachers) had no idea that the evacuation was not a drill. Many of us were not informed of this until hours after we were told to leave the building. Second of all, we do frequent drills for lock downs, fire drills, etc. throughout the school year as all schools do. We just had an evacuation drill last week. Thirdly, I agree with a few students below that it was wrong of the district to annouce there was a drill going on when in fact there was an emergency situation. I hope the district will rethink this approach to an actual emergency. Lastly, considering we had no idea what was going on, I would like to say that I am proud of the Jenkins teachers and students for handling this situation so well. The students were safe and well-taken care of throughout the entire ordeal. I am also appreciate of Scott Elementary School's staff who were so accommodating of us yesterday.

My name is Kalen and I am an eigth grade student at Jenkins Middle School. Yesterday, our school had an emergency evacuation. At first, when I got to school I thought that it was just a practice drill. A little while later, I found out that the situation was serious. I went with my carpool to Scott Elementary where my mom works. She immediately told me to head home because Jenkins kids were being transported to Scott. So, I went back home to await any other news. I hope that the girl that did it gets a serious consequence. Thanks to her, the whole school had to be transported to the small gyms at Scott.

Though things were a little confusing and frustrating in regards to the communications; I am very thankful that all of our children are safe. We never think it will happen to our school, our kids but it did. I wish the communication was clearer to the parents, But, I would like to say thank you for taking all precautions in regards to our kids. My daughter loves this school, and I am very thankful that nothing serious happened. Thank you Jenkins, teachers, and staff for making them your priority, and taking the necessary steps to protect them! In the end, we all are thankful that no harm was brought to our kids, and school staff. Thank you again.

DB- I agree. But as you know they will say she was treated bad or whatever and get a slap on the wrist. Send her away for as long as possible. They start making examples out these people, maybe the next ones will think before they act.

The girl that was arrested - her parents must be so proud of her.

Anonymous is a very kind individual. I do not think 4 years gives justice to a terrorist threat. She should not get the luxury of a halfway house. Send her to jail.

Today while my friends and i were decorating another friends locker our principle told everyone that they were doing a practice evacuation drill. We were freezing outside. eventuall we all figured out it was real. We were taken to scott. During this time I was terrified so were some other kids. Hopefully this wont happen again. As being a student at Jenkins all I can say is that it was the most terrifying day of my life. I thank everyone for helping search the school and keeping us safe

Posted by: Morgan Location: Colorado Springs on May 15, 2008 at 09:45 PM
i am a student there, and i think that it was ridiculous that the teachers didnt tell us anything about what was going on, and that also they lied to us by telling us that it was a drill, what im thankful is that they actually did check the school for any explosives and that we and all the teachers were safe, but next time they should at least tell the students what going on, cause that just nakes us freak out more, but im glad all the teachers knew what to do and where to take us to, and i think the security should be more tight so were are more likely not to have anything like this ever happen again, that was a huge scare to us,

That was a waist of my day. ( but yet it filled my day with fun and suspense)

Posted by: Trenton Location: Jenkins Middle School on May 15, 2008 at 08:41 PM
Hello may name is trenton and i am one of the eighth graders at jenkins middle school. I would like to say that the school did provide an orderly and overall productive evacuation plan. However the school did not really prepare for this happening. By which I mean that no one, I mean no one ever thought that our school would be a target. Like many of my fellow classmates have commented we as a school have only participated in one evacuation drill and I believe that many students did not take this seriously. The only reason I believe the evacuation was a success is because SOME of our teachers were honest with the students that it was not a drill. If we were not informed many students would treat it like a drill and mess around. On the contrary, I am almost in total disbelief that the school deliberatly lied to parents dropping thier young learners off by reportably saying that we were only having a drill. Overally today was a day full of utter chaos.

I am a student at jenkins middle school in 7th grade, and I think that this entire day has been bitter sweet. At first when the bomb threat happened and passed, and we went to school again, it was really cool, we didnt have to learn at all (lol)..so we stayed calm all day and by the end of the day everybody forgot about it, even me

Posted by: l Location: colorado springs on May 15, 2008 at 07:14 PM
i go there and we were all like sitting in breakfast and Mr.T was like all students and staff please leave the building and then we were up on the track field from about 8:40 to around 10:00 or so then are teachers were like we are walking to scott and i thought i was gonna die it was so cold and then we were at scott for abot an hour or two and everyone was freaking out and got picked up early then we were loaded on buses and brought back to school and then mr.t told us everything that happened

Posted by: Jomelyn Location: Jenkins Area on May 15, 2008 at 05:53 PM
As being a student at Jenkins, all i can say is Wow.. The entire time I've been at Jenkins we've only had one drill..and i know that didn't prepare us for what happened today.. I agree with Lexi. The entire was just chaos. It was horrible standing outside on the Track field for over an hour in the snow and rain. Though the reports say we were out side for only an hour, we were actually outside from like 8:30 to like 10. If a threat like this ever happened again hopefully the staff could handle it with more control.. you know or tell it wasn't a drill.

Send her to a halfway house till she is 18. This will stop kids from doing this kind of stuff. 4 years locked up should start to teach her she shouldn't of done it.

As a student at Jenkins, I think the school could have been more prepared. We have only done the drill for a situation like this once before in all of my three years at Jenkins. And that was just last week. Although the school handled it well, they should have told parents who were dropping off their kids to take them back home. We were out in the cold for about and hour and were at Scott for about and hour longer than all of the reports have said. Also, when we had the drill last week, they said if it was the real deal, we'd head to Scott, but not during a drill. However, this morning, they said it was a drill, but then we went to Scott. I think this whole situation could have been more organized and handled alot better than it was.

I am a student at Jenkins. I would like to say that the officials did a wonderful job, keeping us informed on things we needed to know. They let us call our parents and go home. (I was one of the few who did not leave). The only thing I would have suggested is let us off for the rest of the day. It was kind of ... a shocker ... and my heart was racing for most of the day in Scott Elementary.

I am a student at jenkins and I was at school this morning at about 7:50 and at 8:25 the principal made an annoucement that we were having a drill and for all students and staff to exit. After standing outside for 45 minutes we walked to scott. at scott all 6th 7th and 8th graders were squeezed inside the small elementary school gym. it was a horrible day!

Posted by: Student at Jenkins Location: Colorado Springs on May 15, 2008 at 03:23 PM
I agree that the teachers did a great job in keeping us calm althoug I don't think we should have been told it was a drill when it wasn't. They also should have taken us to Scott much sooner. Many of the students figured they would be inside and didn't have jackets. Even I was cold and I had a jacket on. At least we got out of school.

We are also students at Jenkins Middle School. We belive that the teachers did a very good job at keeping the students and themselves calm this morning. They did a fantastic job at getting the school over to Scott quickly and safely. While at Scott they were very understanding of all of the students needs and made sure every student got where they needed to be. We thank the teachers and staff very much for taking care of all of us and protecting us during the hassle at school.

As a parent, I agree that we should have been notified about the "letter" from earlier in the week. We need to be advised of such information. This morning when my daughter was dropped off at school, we were told that this was a drill.....I would have not left my child at the school, in the cold, if I had more information. Though the staff managed the kids well in such a terrible situation, many parents could have protected their kids by taking them back home. Thank you Jenkins for watching out for our kids, but as a parent, it does not settle well, knowing the school knew there was a threat, and they allowed kids to be dropped off by their parents anyway.

My son goes to the school and I was called by him at almost 10 am that they where going to Scott. If this is the 2nd threat this week, why where we not told of the 1st? I thought they should tell parents of that issue. If parents where dropping their kids off at the school this morning then the schoold should have told them of the situation then. The kids where outside on a very cold day for over two hours. Does not seem responsible and the school district should have been more forth coming with the information instead it looks like they where trying to cover it up. Just a thought from a concern parent that is not being told by District 11 what is going on with their children.

We are students at jenkins but we got picked up from scott a short while ago. I got to school at around 8 30 but everyone was going up to the track field. At first our teachers told us it was a drill but later they told us that this is the secound bomb threat this week. Everyone at scott is in a panic. But if you guys figure out anything that is new please tell us.
