Barack Obama is apologizing to a Michigan TV reporter for calling her "sweetie."

Detroit correspondent Peggy Agar shouted a question to the Democratic front-runner during a campaign stop yesterday at a Chrysler plant in suburban Sterling Heights. She asked what he plans to do to help American autoworkers. And Obama shot back, "Hold on one second, sweetie," telling her there'd be a news conference later.

He later left Agar a voice mail message, apologizing for not getting back to her.

Obama also told her he has a bad habit of calling people "sweetie." The message adds: "I mean no disrespect, so I am duly chastened on that front."

Give me a break, if you can't be nice with simple comments as sweetie, and some idiot takes it in offense, then what is this angry senseless world coming to? Obama can call me "sweetie" anytime. Lets deal with politics, not ridiculous callings.

Wow, the Republicans are really pulling strings here. Obama calls a woman sweetie, At least he didnt put our country in a quagmire, destroy our economy, eliminate our civil rights, ruin our gas prices, and consistantly lie to and insult his people. Get real, people! Sweetie is a perfectly common phrase to say to a younger, and yes even lower status person. You all are sounding like ACLU wussies. She wasn't even offended he called her that!

Getting offended by a man calling you "sweetie" is just as immature and ridiculous as getting offended by someone calling you "Ma'am." Some people say "sweetie" with the utmost respect and mean absolutely nothing by it. Americans have become so overly sensitive with stuff like this that they all forgot that different people from different areas have different ways of showing respect to people and that one person's idea of a derogatory comment is another's idea of a well-received compliment. I remember growing up in the south and would get in trouble in school for not replying to a teacher or superior with "Yes, Ma'am" or "Yes, Sir." When I moved to Seattle, I said, "Yes, Ma'am" to a waitress out of the respectfulness I was taught to use and the woman got really offended. I felt bad at the time, but now I realize that she was just an overly sensitive crybaby and didn't deserve the respect I showed her.

Thank you for reporting on Obama. Referring to a woman in this manner is a habit some men in older generations have. There is no excuse at Obama’s age. His mannerism appeared to match the condescending comment. If calling a woman "sweetie" is one of Obama’s habits, Michelle should have helped him corrected this before now. Even if he wasn't running for President of the Unite States, he should know better than to talk to a woman in that manner. I think this story belongs up front. Most of the media will not even mention an error or negative statement by Obama. That is part of the reason we really don't know anything about this candidate. It should be up to the reader’s and voters to decide what is important, not for the press to screen out information "for us." This story was reported by giving the information/facts, and did not show any bias. The way all information on a candidate (and all stories) should be reported.
