A family's emotions are on a roller coaster after some human remains were found in Fountain Creek. Information released Tuesday night led them to believe that the bones found may have been their missing brother.

According to Fountain police and the El Paso County Coroner’s office it's still unclear who the remains belong to.

28 bones were found along the creek bed. Fountain Police originally said one of the bones, a human femur bone, was that of a 10 to 12 year old child. When John Fortner heard the news he couldn't believe it.

"I got a phone call from my sister and she said they found Grant," Fortner said.

His younger brother Grant drowned in Fountain Creek 28 years ago, the search for his body called off soon after.

"Three days after they started, they called the search off," Fortner said.

He and his family have been left wondering what happened to their brother ever since.

"It's still hard on the family to be given up on," Fortner said.

John's says when he heard about the bones he was praying it was the evidence they'd been waiting for.

"I was really hoping it was him, for closure. So no other family has to go through this," Fortner said.

But he says when he found out where the human bone was found he knew it couldn't be his brother.

"All I wanted to know was where they were found, it was north of the bridge no way," he said.

No way they could be his brothers. He says the coroner has told the family that the bones are that of an adult and he's worried that the coroner will never be able to match the bones up to any missing person, leaving families like his wondering.

Fountain Police say their investigation is still in the early stages and they aren't ruling out any missing person’s cases at this point.
