Hundreds gathered at the city auditorium in downtown Colorado Springs to remember the life of Robert Isaac, the former mayor who served in city government for 22 years.

Isaac was mayor of Colorado Springs from 1979 to 1997; he left an incredible mark on our city.

People lined the streets in downtown before Friday’s service to honor and say goodbye to Mayor Bob. He will always be remembered not only for his leadership, but also for his vision.

"Mayor Bob was a man who genuinely cared for the people of the city and the city itself," said Mayor Lionel Rivera.

He led with integrity and always set an example for others to follow.

"He was an Army officer, an engineer, an attorney, an assistant district attorney, a city councilman and a mayor," said Mayor Bob’s West Point classmate Donald McGann.

Mayor Bob’s five children spoke about how their beloved father touched their lives, teaching them new lessons everyday.

"When the broncos are on TV, yell at the television," said Isaac’s daughter Melissa Denton.

"I adored my dad, he was the epitome of strength and safety," said Tiffany Isaac.

They all say Mayor Bob made decisions based on what was best for the city, but not necessarily the most popular.

"He was respected for his integrity, dedication, intelligence, but he was also known for his sense of humor and his competitiveness," said his son Chance Isaac.

Those who knew him each have their own Bob story to tell. One of his former classmates spoke about days at West Point. County Commissioner Sally Clark credits Mayor Bob for giving her a start in politics.

"He was an amazing man who mentored me. He's looking down on us, making sure we are all stewards to our community,” Clark said.

The Colorado Springs Airport terminal and the Municipal Court building downtown are named in honor of the former mayor.
