Residents say Iraqi soldiers are warning people to leave their homes in Sadr City for security reasons.

They say the warning is the first time residents have been told to flee the embattled Baghdad district. The residents say soldiers using loudspeakers are telling people to go to nearby soccer stadiums. But most residents still have not left.

Thursday's warning is taken as a sign that U.S.-backed forces are preparing to launch a new push into the area to clear pockets of Shiite extremists who have been battling U.S. soldiers for almost seven weeks.

A U.N. agency says about 6,000 people have fled their homes in the Shiite militia stronghold.

Why are we still participating in a civil war? Our annointed milita in Bagdad is trying to clear out their opposition of the same religious affiliation and same ties back to the Iranians. The only difference is one wants to stay in power past their "elections" by wiping out their opposition and clearing the way for bribery and extortion by our oil companies for the oil agreement that the Iraquis will not currently sign. What the heck is the matter with the USA who cannot negotiate for oil in good faith but must take it by force. Who in their right mind would take their country resources and give it away on a 70 to the USA and 30% for themselves. NOBODY is that gratefull for the removal of Saddam especially since we decimated that country after the first Gulf War.
