Cadet Killed in Car Crash

Updated: Mon 8:24 AM, Jan 20, 2003

A cadet at the Air Force Academy died and another was seriously injured when an SUV they were riding in was broadsided by a pickup truck that ran a stop sign.

Chaney King of Littleton died shortly after the accident last night. Nathan Bertino of Springfield, Virginia, was in critical condition at Penrose Main Hospital.

Colorado State Patrol Trooper Maurice Harris says the accident happened at about10 p.m. at the intersection of Colorado 83 and Palmer Divide Road.

The pickup truck struck the SUV on the passenger side, where King was sitting. Harris says alcohol is not considered a factor.
