People are cleaning up in northeastern Colorado after winds up to 60 mph battered the area, toppling trees, power lines and temporarily closing one highway.

High winds in northeastern Colorado were driven by a low-pressure system over the Dakotas Friday. Colorado State University's climate center says wind speeds were consistently 30 mph and above.

U.S. 287 between Fort Collins and the Wyoming line was closed for a while in the afternoon because of the high winds.

Firefighters in Greeley responded to 35 emergency calls between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Friday. Union Colony Fire spokesman Dale Lyman says most of the calls were about damaged power lines and trees that had blown onto houses.
