You can expect more cloud cover and cooler temperatures today. By later this afternoon, rain showers will develop across the Pikes Peak Region and slowly drift southward. These rain showers will quickly change to snow at higher elevations, and accumulations will be likely. At lower elevations, snow accumulation does not appear to be a big deal. A new state agency is helping law enforcement gain the upperhand on car thieves.
The Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority started in January to help local police forces track and recover stolen vehicles faster and in higher numbers.
The authority brings together three task forces throughout the state that share information on thefts, which agency manager Tom Boyle says is key.
Most cars are found outside the jurisdictions they were stolen from.
So far the three task forces have recovered 153 stolen vehicles worth about $1.8 million through the first six months of the year.
The three task forces -- Northern Colorado's Auto Theft Team, Denver Metro Auto Theft Task Force and the Reduce Auto Theft of Southern Colorado.
