The Drowsy Chaperone (Don Ward)

The Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad will operate for at least another year. The commission that oversees the tourist attraction in southwestern Colorado decided Saturday to allow the Rio Grande Railway Preservation Corporation to operate the narrow gauge train.
The commission fired the corporation last fall because of financial and track maintenance problems. Proposals from three other bidders apparently did not meet the commission's requirements. Both the commission and the corporation have agreed to work out the issues in order to keep the train running.
The train winds through 64 miles of the San Juan Mountains from Antonito to Chama, New Mexico.
