“I looked that way and Ordway was on fire,” said Nadia Vogt, one of the evacuees.

The wildfire in Ordway, north of Rocky Ford, leveled several homes. The gas line at one of them was still on fire a few hours after the blaze tore through the generations-old home. “It’s just…we lost everything, everything sentimental,” said Earl Brewer.

“I’m scared, worried. I’m worried about the people in town,” said Michelle Martson. She said her husband was burning trash on Monday morning. It was out, but she believes the wind may have flared the fire up on Tuesday afternoon.

Several power lines were downed and still on fire in the middle of the roads. “This is a tragedy. People have lost their homes. There are dead cows in the field,” said Jacob Mason, a resident of the small town.

Thousands were forced to evacuate. “I grabbed my dog, my car and I ran,” said Vogt.

Red Cross is providing relief efforts for the thousands who were forced to leave.

The fire in April was very scary. School was almost over when the fire started. All my friends were worried about their homes. There was a fire a few minutes ago at this trailer park in Ordway. Everyone's fine.

My heart aches for the people of Crowley County, I grew up in the town of Crowley and the area has a large soft spot in my heart. If there is anything that I can do to help the citizens, please put the articles in The Ordway New Era so that suscribers like I am can assist in the recovery efforts. My God bless and comfort each and every person in Crowley County.
