World-renowned artist Christo is scheduled to travel to Salida Monday to discuss his proposed project for the Arkansas River.
Christo and his wife, Jeanne-Claude, will appear in Salida's Steam Plant Theater Performing Arts Center to talk about "Over the River." They've also been meeting with state and local officials to begin the permitting process.
Christo's idea is to cover a six-mile stretch of the Arkansas River about 20 miles west of Canon City with huge pieces of clear fabric. The river would remain accessible to rafters, hikers and wildlife.
The project was conceived nearly a decade ago, but Christo and his wife say it'll be at least the summer of 2008 before the project is completed.
