An Ohio soldier stationed at Fort Carson is dead after the Humvee he was riding in was struck by a roadside bomb southeast of Baghdad in Iraq.
Family members say Army Private First Class Robert Swaney was stationed with the Third U.S. Armored Calvary Regiment, Thunder Squadron. He died Friday.
Swaney's aunt, Angie Denes, says he told her in a phone call last Sunday that he feared he wouldn't come home alive. She says he told her he was frustrated and nervous about growing danger.
Swaney -- a 21-year-old Columbus native -- eloped to marry Alexandria Swaney in October.
Alexandria Swaney says her husband was supposed to return on leave to the United States in a month. The couple was looking forward to celebrating their first anniversary.
