Colorado Springs Transit is raising the rate for its 31-Day ticket fares, effective January 1, 2003.
Currently, the monthly pass is $31.25. It will increase by $3.75 to $35.00. These passes provide unlimited bus rides during a 31-day period.
Springs Transit says this increase will generate approximated $80,000 in revenue. Officials also say the increase is necessary to keep costs in line with rising maintenance and operations costs.
The Colorado Springs City Council formally approved the fare increase as part of its 2003 General Fund Budget. Council members are also considering cutting several bus routes, but no decision on that will be made until February at the earliest.
The last fare increase for Springs Transit was in 1999 when the basic one-way fare was increased from $1.00 to $1.25. The 1999 fare increase did not affect the monthly passes, which have been replaced by the 31-Day Tickets.
