A suspected child predator remains behind bars on a $2 million bond. He was extradited to Cody, Wyo. on Thursday, where the alleged abduction took place.
Jesse Speer, 39, was arrested Saturday in Belgrade, Mont. after an almost week-long manhunt. He is accused of forcing a young girl into his SUV on October 8, then driving to a desolate road and assaulting her. Hunters found her wandering towards the highway after he let her go.
Speer made his first appearance in a Wyoming court Friday, where he was advised of his charges and appointed a public defender. He will return to court on October 26 for a preliminary hearing.
Though now living in Montana, records indicate Speer once owned a home in Colorado Springs, and his parents still reside in the area. Despite his Colorado connection, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office says that based on the investigation so far, they do not think Speer is connected to any other kidnapping or attempted kidnapping cases in Colorado, although they are still looking into it.
