The Pentagon says two big combat units will move to Fort Carson in a shift that adds about 8,000 soldiers to the Army post.
The Pentagon says Fort Carson would gain two brigade combat teams with about 3,500 soldiers each, plus the headquarters of the 4th Infantry Division. The headquarters unit has about 1,200 soldiers.
All are currently based at Fort Hood, Texas.
The Pentagon says the moves are part of plans to return up to 50,000 soldiers from overseas by the end of the decade. They are not part of the current round of base closings.
Fort Carson already houses the 2nd and 3rd brigade combat teams. The 2nd was based in South Korea but its soldiers are returning from Iraq to Fort Carson.
