Controversial Former Mayor Facing Trial

Jury selection is underway in Eagle County in the trial of Georgetown's former mayor who's accused of faking an attack on herself. Koleen Brooks maintains she is innocent. Brooks says she's scared and afraid she may go to jail while her attacker goes free. She says the charges were trumped up by her political enemies.

Prosecutors say the former stripper-turned-mayor staged an attack on herself February 16th of last year. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation concluded Brooks was not attacked while walking near her home. Court filings in the case allege scratches and other injuries were either self-inflicted or made with Brooks' knowledge.

Brooks says prosecutors offered her community service in exchange for pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge, but she refused to accept the deal. Voters ousted Brooks in a recall election last April.
