The kid who was late deserved his pumishment. That kid is over exagerating.Like kids are realy going to go beat a kid for being late. They were just messing around. The kid took this to seriously. This kid is stupid. It is his falt for being tarty. The person who needs to be punished is the kid.NOT Mr.Havel! I know Mr.Havel. I was one of Mr.havels students. He is a great teacher. He dosnt need this type of punishment! And if you have a problem with what i wrote then email me at VansSkater2006@aol.com

K and Someone, Look back to the "Golden Years" when this type of punishment was tolerated. Back then, you could do buisness on a hand shake! imagine trying to do that now. The fact is people had much more integrity and discilpine when we weren't worried about being a little severe in our punishments. if the punishment is a phone call to mom and dad for a kid that keeps disrupting class, that student will continue to disrupt class to see how far it can be taken. If the punishment for disrupting class is a paddle on the backside, that student and others will think twice before doing it, even once!

If it was my kid that he did this to, I'd praise Mr. Havel. What scares me about our public schools is what they teach to the kids. No public/private schools for my kids. They're going to be home-schooled so that they can get a proper education.

"a bf, and Frred" get a life. Not everyone is on time EVERY SINGLE TIME. And it's not ALWAYS the parents fault! So what gave this teacher the right to 'discipline" this kid in his own will. He had no right to lay one hand on the kid. If you had kids would you want your child at a school where the teacher threatens your kid to get beaten up and things like that? I doubt it. A teacher doesnt need to hit a kid to secure his place as a leader. God. I'm 15 and I'm smarter than you. Grow the hell up.

What is wrong with you people ? Being hit by peers is a way to teach people to behave with integrity and how to deter irresponsibilty ? Using humiliation and beating is a way to teach responsibilty ? I truly feel sorry to know you are another ignorant, out of control person thinking violence is a way to teach and exist. How ugly your world must be to know you would be accepting of this punishment for yourself or your children, a family member or a friend's child. It is amazing to continue to watch the psychotic reasoning and immoral acts of the communites we live in and rationalize this is the way people should function on a day to day basis. You believe this behavior is what makes children respect authority and leadership ? I feel truly sorry for you and whomever has raised you and let you down for you to think this is ok to treat a student or any person in this manner.

Somebody needs to discipline the kid, apparently the parents dont care. Leave the teacher alone give him back his job

that kid just needs to suck-it-up and stop being tardy! I'm sure the kid wasn't beaten to within an inch of his life like the article tries to make it look like. It just sounds like the teacher was trying to secure his place as leader of the classroom while trying to be funny at the same time. I don't think we are getting the full story here. I'm sure of it that the student in question would not be tardy for Mr. Havels class again if he was still teaching! to make my point, maybe this is what kids need these days. I have noticed the schools turning out a lot of cry-baby pansies lately. These kids come out with no idea of the real world because they have had their hand held to cross the street since they could walk!

WTF??? WOW. Mr. Havel, I would love to sit and chat with you. As a mother of 3, I cannot believe you did what you did. I agree with Mark about you joining the military, only thing is....You'd never last...it is my personal opinion that you are a bully. Shame on you. I hope you get more than pushups for your "tardy" thinking....

I agree. I don't have any kids of my own yet, but it scares me to hear what happens in schools...where you put your trust into the teachers and school staff to make sure your children are safe. After all that has happened in the last few years, I am now debating on the whole homeschooling idea, for when I have kids of my own.

Mr. Havel has no business being in the teaching profession; was a waste of his money to go to school and then take it upon himself to behave this way. Then he told other students to hit the tardy student; what's wrong here? Get rid of this one Delta High, more trouble than he's worth! The students deserve better, it's what our tax dollars are paying for. If Havel wants to have people do push ups; join the military and become a drill sergeant.

I think part of the issue beyond illogical choice is a 22 year old teacher is not a whole lot older than most of the students there. Maybe out of college teachers should start as assistants in a high school setting or begin in an elementary setting. Except, I would hate to see what Mr. Havel would do to a small kid. This is why I homeschool my kids to be honest.
