Cadet Survey Postponed

The Air Force Academy is delaying its annual social climate survey until November and may add questions about the religious atmosphere and other topics.

The survey normally is given in August.

Academy spokesman Johnny Whitaker says it was delayed to allow freshmen time to get used to their surroundings before they are asked about them.

He says the Academy Assessment Board is considering whether to ask cadets about what role religion plays on campus.

Allegations of religious intolerance at the academy prompted an investigation by the Air Force. Air Force officials are drafting new guidelines for religious expression.

The survey was launched three years ago after a sexual assault scandal at the school.
