Water Projects

Lawmakers in Colorado this year are expected to review plans for some of the most ambitious water projects since the federal government vetoed the Two Forks Dam years ago.

Colorado has been allocated three-and-three-quarters million acre-feet of water from the Colorado River drainage annually, but never has taken it because there's not enough storage.

Now at least two plans are reviewing how to prevent that water from leaving Colorado.

But in the middle are Western Slope lawmakers who say just because the populated Eastern part of Colorado wants a project won't necessarily make it happen.
