There are plenty of things I personally don't like but that doesn't mean there should be a law against them. I don't like sitting in rush-hour traffic twice a day "inhaling" all of the exhaust fumes. That CAN'T be good for you but is there a law against it? What's the difference between exhaust fumes and second-hand smoke? And if vehicle exhaust were found to be more dangerous than even the "big bad second-hand cigarette smoke," will they ban driving all-together? There are many laws on the books that do not make sense and this is clearly one of them.

You're correct, cigarette smokers do have rights. They have the right to keep that nasty disgusting habit at home. I have many friends that smoke and not a one of the whines, like many in here, about having to go outside to burn one. Ami, you have hostility issues. There are professionals who can help you.

Let's make things easy. Have the owner post a sign stating that smoking is allowed in their establishment and if someone does not want to be there or work, go to another bar or find a different job. What is the problem with that. Everyone has a choice that way. Oh yeah, the government would not be in control.

Enough of these **** yuppies running this country...so sick of these people complaining about this and about that...who's right and who's wrong and your going to kill me with you second hand smoke cause you should not smoke to begin with. And your wrong and I am right that is all there is to it. I hate the smoke; can't stand the way it smells and the way it clings to my clothes but I know if I go somewhere (a bar) that some people choose to smoke and chances are I will probably end up smelling like that at the end of the night. It just comes with the territory...I hate it and can't stand it but it is not up to me to tell the business owner he needs to revamp his model and process to accomodate me. **** on the yuppies they are taking over this city and country. Ban the yuppies from entering the bar's.

This law is not about smokers (or nonsmokers) rights. It is about the rights of business owners. A bar owner should have the right to allow smoking or not. There were several restaurants that were nonsmoking before the ban, and no one complained. It is the owners decision. If you don't like smoke, don't go to a place that allows it. If you want to smoke, don't go to a place that doesn't allow it. It's really not that complicated. Majority rules is not a good way to rule society. If it was, we would still have slavery.

I agree the law should be amended to exempt "small neighborhood bars". I applaud Mr. Hicks for standing up for his business. I wish you the best.

i am behind every bar owner that is fighting this no smoking law. what about the smokers rights? ya never hear anything about protecting our rights! it's not fair. we have the right to smoke just as much as the person that doesn't smoke not to be around smoke. by golly it's a bar! i think our government sticks their nose in places where it really doesn't belong. seems they could find better things to stick their nose in. like people who run yellow lights, and are to rud to move over to let traffic out of ramps. we smokers pay our taxes just as much as the non smoker if not more taxes. we are paying for the right to smoke(yes in more ways than one) but that's our right too, isn't it?

I don't smoke, but who the hell am I to tell you what you can do in your own business. If you don't like the smoke filled bar then go to a smoke free bar, simple as that. I'm sick and tired of these pansies complaining. It's like a radio station. Don't like what you hear then switch the frequency. Whats next? You can't drink liquor in the bars because you might drive drunk and kill someone? How about we stop driving all together since tens of thousands die every year on our roads. Better yet, ban salt at all restaurants because it kills thousands every year just like second hand smoke.

Since when do we have the right to blow second hand smoke in a closed environment? I think most people have this wrong...we don't! and i am a smoker. There is absolutely nothing wrong with smoke free bars; we as smokers act like it's our right to smoke where ever we want. How is it that non-smokers don't have any rights? How is it that ONLY smokers go to bars? Again i'm a smoker.

I no longer smoke (I used to) and although I like the smoke-free environment in bars these days I disagree with the law. I think it should be the bar owner's decision as to whether an establishment is smoke free. But in a democratic society the majority rules and the laws aren't always what every individual wants. So I also believe people should abide by the law and work towards changing it if they believe it's wrong.

Thank goodness there are still a few people in this world who refuse to knuckle under to the government like sheep, who still understand the concept of civil disobedience. As long as tobacco is legal to purchase and consume by adults, people should be free to enjoy it in adult environments like bars. Besides, people don't go to bars to be HEALTHY; they go to bars to drink, to relax, and to have FUN. They don't go to bars expecting the Health Police to be looking over their shoulders all the time. If I want to go someplace to be HEALTHY, I'll go to yoga studio, thank you very much.
