A strong cold front will move through Southern Colorado today. It will bring much colder temperatures (especially in the afternoon), strong wind, a few rain/snow showers, and blowing dust to Southern Colorado. Light snow accumulations and poor visibility will be possible for a time this afternoon and evening north of Colorado Springs and south/southwest of Pueblo. Blowing dust will be mostly likely on the Eastern Plains, where a Blowing Dust Advisory is in effect. Bottom-line, your Tuesday will feel (and look) a lot different than the past two days. A former U.S. Forest Service worker pleaded guilty to setting fire to federal land and making false statements to investigators -- and a presentence report has been ordered by the judge.
Terry Lynn Barton entered the pleas to the count Friday afternoon in a plea agreement which proposes that she spend from 70 to 87
months in federal prison. However when Judge Richard Matsch accepted the guilty pleas he also ordered a presentencing investigation before imposing a penalty.
The fire that began near Lake George ravaged 137,000 of the Pike National Forest and nearby lands and destroyed 133 homes and a business. State officials are considering additional charges of arson
against Barton for the homes and business destroyed in the blaze.
