Explosives Screening

Updated: Tue 4:25 PM, Dec 31, 2002

Passengers traveling through Denver International Airport now have to go through one more level of security screening. Starting today all checked baggage will be screened for bombs to meet a deadline imposed by Congress.

Denver's airport is using the three large screening machines
already at the airport along with hand searches and bomb sniffing
dogs.

The airport has gotten permission to install bulky screening
machines into its baggage conveyor system to speed up the work.
That work is expected to coast about $100 million and take up much of 2003.
