Snowmobilers Rescued

A Denver area man and his two nephews are safe today after spending nearly 14 hours stuck in deep snow while snowmobiling on Rabbit Ears Pass near Steamboat Springs.

Routt County Search and Rescue crews reached the three around 1:30 Sunday morning, and they were brought to safety by Snocat.

Search and Rescue mission coordinator Sandy Witte says the 48-year-old man called authorities on his cell phone yesterday to report he and his nephews, ages 13 and 15, were stuck in deep snow.

Crews kept in touch with them by cell phone and two-way radio. Witte says the three were well prepared, with food and water, warm clothes and equipment to build a fire.
