Weld County authorities say the body of a four-year-old boy who had been missing for two days has been found.
Sam Cockroft, of Kersey, went missing while riding a four-wheel all-terrain vehicle near the South Platte River.
Undersheriff Margie Martinez says a group of seven civilian searchers found the body about 5:30 p.m. Sunday. His body was trapped by a cottonwood tree branch that was hanging over the river. A dive team from the Loveland Police Department recovered the body.
Martinez says Cockroft was about four miles downstream from his home, and his parents were on the scene. She says no cause of death has been established and an autopsy is planned.
Cockroft disappeared on Friday night. Martinez has said it isn't unusual for such young children to drive ATVs in a rural, agricultural community.
