Moderate snow continues to fall for some areas of northern El Paso and Teller Counties, accumulating in the grass and yards. Meanwhile, in the plains and along the southern I-25 stretch, light rain/snow mix continues. Take it slow on the roadways - due to VERY strong winds, we are seeing blowing dirt and snow (depending on the region), which is tremendously reducing visibility. A new regional forest fire research center at Colorado State University will study how to restore forests after wildfires.
The center is a outgrowth of the federal Southwest Forest Health and Wildfire Prevention passed by Congress last year.
Bill Romme, a CSU professor of forest ecology, said funding for the new institute will be announced this fall. He said CSU was chosen because of its experience with forest science research.
