Air Force Academy Superintendent John Rosa is resigning to become the president of his alma mater, The Citadel in South Carolina.
He will replace Major General John Grinalds, who leaves The Citadel on August 1st after eight years running the state military college in Charleston.
Grinalds helped the college move forward after its fight over the admission of women in the mid-1990s. Next year he will become headmaster at a private prep school in Charleston.
Rosa still needs to get approval from the secretary of the Air Force to leave active duty, so it would be four to six months before he joins The Citadel.
Business professor Cliff Poole will serve as interim president between Grinalds' departure and Rosa's arrival.
