United Airlines says it will lay off another 352 pilots over the next two months. The cuts are part of the struggling carrier's plan to decrease
its flying schedule next year.

The company says it will cut 220 pilots' jobs on Jan. 6 and another 132 on Feb. 7t That raises the total number of pilots laid off to nearly 2,000. United will have cut 9,000 employees in all.

The Chicago-based carrier employs about 8,300 people and about 1,300 pilots are based in Colorado. Officials say the layoffs will be by seniority.

Shares in United's parent company fell 23 cents to close at $3.05 Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange. Pilots' union spokesman Herb Hunter says they anticipated the layoffs after the airline announced the latest schedule reduction.
