Light snow/rain continue to develop along northern El Paso County, as well as wind picking up in this location. This trend will continue to extend to the south throughout the afternoon hours. Light snow accumulations and poor visibility will be possible for a time this afternoon and evening north of Colorado Springs and south/southwest of Pueblo. Blowing dust will be mostly likely on the Eastern Plains, where a Blowing Dust Advisory is in effect. Bottom-line, your Tuesday will feel (and look) a lot different than the past two days. Be prepared...
Twenty-five soldiers in the Second Brigade Combat Team now have Purple Hearts.
The soldiers received the medals Tuesday during a ceremony at Fort Carson, which is the brigade's new posting when its tour in Iraq ends. The medal features George Washington's profile and hangs from a purple ribbon.
Specialist John Escoto says it's an honor he never wanted. During an ambush in April, Escoto kept firing with a rifle covered with his blood and a thumb hanging by a thread of flesh. The father of seven is awaiting a bone graft for his reattached thumb.
During the ceremony, Major Jay Jacob's told the wounded soldiers that the rest of the country needs to think about the sacrifices made by the nearly 13,000 soldiers who have been wounded in Iraq.
