A closed hearing for an Air Force officer accused of raping a former Air Force Academy cadet will resume Friday at Randolph Air Force Base in Texas.
Lawyers for First Lieutenant Joseph Harding spent Thursday arguing that the rape charge should be shelved because they have not been given access to records of conversations between the accuser and a civilian rape counselor. They argued Thursday that the case should be suspended until the records become available.
Rape counselor Jennifer Bier has said she will not turn over the records -- which she considers confidential.
Air Force lawyers say a separate charge of sexually assaulting a second former cadet could still continue even if the rape case is stopped.
