There's word today that the 4th Infantry Division, currently based at Fort Hood Texas, will be relocated to Fort Carson.
The announcement was reportedly made today by the Secretary of the Army while attending Base Realignment and Closure meetings in Texas. The 4th ID will apparently make the move after their next deployment to Iraq.
Fort Carson officials have confirmed the move to KKTV 11 News, but have yet to provide further details. In addition, the 3rd Armored Calvary Regiment will eventually be moved to Fort Hood. The timing of the 3rd ACR move has not been announced.
It's unclear what net effect the move will have on troop levels at the Mountain Post. Under the Pentagon's BRAC plan, Fort Carson was to have gained two brigades totally approximately 8,000 troops. There are approximately 22,000 4th ID soldiers stationed at Fort Hood.
