Air Force Academy Religious Investigation

An independent group is now reviewing the religious climate at the Air Force Academy amid allegations of religious intolerance at the school.

Academy spokesman Johnny Whitaker says the five-member team will interview students, staff, senior officers and faculty through Thursday.

Whitaker says the review compliments work being done at the academy by an internal task force.

He says the group usually helps recruit military chaplains but came to Colorado Springs at the request of the academy's chief of staff and the Secretary of the Air Force.

The academy has been scrutinized since some faculty and cadets complained earlier this year that Christian cadets received preferential treatment and that evangelical Christians harassed cadets who didn't share their faith.

Cadets are now required to attend religious tolerance seminars.
