Suspected Cop Killer Faces Extradition

With suspected cop killer Raul Garcia-Gomez now in custody, Denver prosecutors are facing the laborious process of extradition.

Garcia-Gomez was taken into custody in Mexico over the weekend.

Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrisey says it could take a year to get him back into the United States.

Twenty-year-old Garcia-Gomez is suspected in the shooting death of Denver police detective Donald Young, who was ambushed May Eighth as he and another detective provided security for a private event.

Mexico does not extradite suspects who could face the death penalty or life in prison without parole, and Morrisey says it could involve delicate negotiations with Mexican authorities.

Mexican law allows for the death penalty -- but no one has been executed there in almost 70 years.
