Controversial Decision Stands

One of the most controversial decisions by Colorado Springs City Council members this year will stand.

The council voted five-to-four to offer health and other benefits for same-sex partners of city employees. All city employees, including police and firefighters, can apply for the extended benefits next year.

Colorado Springs Utilities and Memorial Hospital have followed suit. Both have included increased funding in their 2003 budgets to pay for such benefits.

All four city council members who voted against the 2003 budget say they did so because of the new benefits.
