A new report says the number of crimes targeting Muslims in Colorado soared after last year's terrorist attacks.

According to new figures from the FBI and Colorado Bureau of Investigation, there were 17 hate crimes targeting Muslims reported in Colorado in the second half of 2001. There were no such crimes reported in all of 2000.

Overall, the number of crimes committed based on a racial, ethnic, religious or sexual bias rose to 165 in all of 2001. That's compared to 107 in 2000.

Blacks and Hispanics remain the most frequent victims of hate crimes.

The figures were included in the annual Uniform Crime Report.
