Off-highway motorcycle riders may soon have a new place to call home.

The Colorado State Parks Board voted unanimously on Friday to allow El Paso County Commissioner to design a master plan for a new recreational riding park.

"No where in El Paso County is there such a park. We felt there was a need for a small sliver of land for OHV users to recreate upon," said Commissioner Jim Bensberg.

Motorcycle enthusiasts are in favor of a park.

"I just think it's time for OHV and motorcyclists to have their park to where they can go and ride," said supporter Josh Otterstetter.

While opponents have environmental concerns.

"I would like to see that area protected," said Ruth Obee.

The land is located near Highway 94 and Blaney Road in Eastern El Paso County. It is next to a landfill and salvage yard. But, developers have plans to build homes nearby in the future.

"I don't think this is the most appropriate place," Obee.

If the Colorado State Trails Committee agrees with El Paso County's master plan, Commissioner Bensberg says the park could be open by October.
