An Air Force Academy chaplain says she has been fired for speaking up about claims of religious intolerance at the school.

Forty-eight-year-old Captain Melinda Morton says she was dismissed last week, after Colonel Michael Whittington pressured her to deny details of a religious service held during new cadet training last summer.

But the academy says Morton is still a chaplain.

Morton was scheduled to depart the academy this summer for an overseas assignment, but she says Whittington told her May Fourth that he was shifting her responsibilities to another chaplain to ensure a smooth transition.

Morton says that's just an excuse, and claims there's misconduct in the school's chaplaincy.

The news comes as the academy examines claims of religious intolerance.
